We are lucky enough to work on a whale research team here in Maui called the Keiki Kohola Project. Dr. Rachel Cartwright and her crew have been helping the conservation of the Humpback whale population in Hawaiian waters for almost 20 years. Her behavioral research and papers she writes directly help the protection of these amazing animals. We are the "Underwater Data Collectors" and help her document and further understand the whale's behavior from below the surface. We mostly work with mom and calf pairs and this is a perfect example of the pair set against the Maui background, it's also Rachel's favorite. "West Maui Ohana" This photo was taken under NMFS Permit #10018 & 895-1450 during research activities pursuant to this permit.
