Cavernous Maximus
This image was captured at First Cathedral, one of our favorite dive sites in Hawaii. The site is actually on Lanai, just a 40 min boat ride across the channel from Maui. First Cathedral was formed from lava flowing into the ocean and quickly cooling which left behind holes, tunnels, and tubes for us to play in. At some point during the cooling process, a piece of the ceiling fell to the ground leaving a giant hole behind. On clear, bright, sunny days the sunlight comes blasting through the hole creating beautiful beams of light that dance around on the floor of the cavern. To make it even cooler, the piece of ceiling that sits on the floor actually looks like an altar when the sun rays illuminate it and various small holes in the back wall of the cave give the effect of stained glass windows, which really make this cavern look church like. Believe it or not, we've actually been underwater for a few weddings in First Cathedral; it is truly a magical place!
