The number of visiting whales dipped a couple years ago and everyone was worried if it was going to be a trend. Fortunately the numbers were back up and all was right on Maui again. Days when the whales are this friendly don't happen too often and this one we were even blessed to have the conditions be idyllic. We were able to get our lens right on the waterline and capture the unique perspective of the the beautiful west Maui mountains and the baby whale below. This photo was taken under NMFS Permit #10018 & 895-1450 during research activities pursuant to this permit.
